Susan Becker keeps finding herself mixed up in mysteries when she should be busy cooking up something sweet in her bakery in the small tourist town of Lakeside, Missouri. Her best feline friend, Mr. Giles, is one of those curious cats who can't keep away from a fresh crime scene.

Detective Kip Fletcher has the unpleasant job of finding out who dug up and stole the corpse of one of the town's leading citizens.

A missing body. A mysterious skeleton key. Unexplained lights that could be the town's first ghost...

Mr. Giles already knows the truth. But can he guide Susan and Kip to the body snatchers before they vanish along with the corpse?

The Missing Corpse The Lakeside Cozy Cat Mysteries Series Book One edition by Janet Evans Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Susan, owner of a bakery, and Mr. Giles, her cat, can't help themselves when it comes to investigating the local crime; especially when Mr. Giles keeps bringing clues home. The story is set in the cozy town of Lakeside, MS. It's a small community. Everybody knows everybody, and the body of the local rich recluse, who died six years ago, is missing from the grave. Detective Kip appreciates Susan's help in solving this case; even though he has been warned by the upper brass to keep her at bay. Perhaps Kip keeps Susan by his side because he is smitten. You decide.

This is really a good story; easy to read and flows well. Janet Evans is a very good writer. She keeps you interested with each scene playing out on the pages. I love the relationship between Susan and Mr. Giles. She is a true cat lover and allows him to be the curious cat that he is. I liked the twist in the plot because the town folks believe the handed down gossip to learn everyone is not quite as they seem.

I do hope there will be a Book 2 and a series for Susan, Mr. Giles and Kip, because I want to read more of the crime solving these three handle.

The Missing Corpse The Lakeside Cozy Cat Mysteries Series Book One edition by Janet Evans Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

What a quirky little mystery. Loved the cat, Mr. Giles. Very quick read. Not real puzzling but fun to follow. Hope there are more "Lakeside Cozy Cat Mysteries".
Loved the interaction with Mr. Giles, Susan and policeman Kip. Fast s t read with a story that keep you entertained. Can not wait to read the next adventure.
What a delightful cozy. Nice dialogue, interesting characters that leave you VERY curious
to learn more about them in depth.
It's a sweet mystery that didn't keep me awake all night wondering whodunit. I would read book 2 if there is another. I think it is appropriate for anyone from fifth grade on. A good short read without complicated plots and subplots. I was to read a free copy and write an honest review, but I never got the free copy opened. Instead I purchased and reviewed it.
This seemed like a short story. Not sure I will read the next installment. Typical cat mystery. Nosy woman with boyfriend cop. This line is getting old. I liked the cat okay, but having read Mr. Giles numerous times was annoying. Dumb name for a cat.
Susan owns a bakery and a cat, Mr. Giles. Mr. Giles is a trouble-maker who brings clues home to his owner, and together they solve mysteries. There is a cat, a mystery, and a love interest, all contained in this fun cozy.
The Missing Corpse is a quick, fluent read that is charming for all ages. I think the author should try to create more action in the next book, enlarge upon her character's proclivities, appearance, make them a character you would love to emulate or sigh over. Also, just a suggestion, try adding a canine character and create a little friction with your feline friend. It is a good read, the author can write, just work on more intricate unpredictable sequencing. Okie Reading Specialist
