A true and inspirational story of an extraordinary mother whose love for her children drove her to accomplish the seemingly impossible -- becoming a self-made millionaire despite her illiteracy and hardships. An incredible, true story of love, courage, and perseverance.
After fleeing an abusive, arranged marriage, Moon married an American soldier and immigrated to the United States from Korea in the 1950s. Her secure happy life ended abruptly when her husband did not return from Vietnam. A sheltered housewife who could barely read and write, left with three small children, and without family and friends. So began her incredible journey toward caring for and building a future for her children. Faced with every tragedy known to mankind, and armed with nothing but sheer will power, Moon discovered a knack for negotiating lucrative real estate business deals.
Although Moon’s new life brought many hardships, working for days without sleep, dealing with the sorrow of losing two children tragically, struggling with illiteracy, to name a few, Moon was forever grateful for every hardship she experienced and overcame.
Moon wanted to share her life story with others. To give hope to those who are at their darkest hour. To inspire those who want to achieve more in life. To help people stop feeling sorry for themselves. By sharing herself with others, she hoped that they would appreciate what they have – no matter how little – and use it to their fullest potential.
Most, if not all, readers will find they have much, much more to start with compared to Moon. So you’ll be left with no excuses for fulfilling your dreams and armed with the motivation to do so. She achieved the impossible, so can you!
Great book to inspire employees to take responsibility for creating a meaningful and fulfilling career rather than waiting for management to do it for them.

I actualy bought this book by accident. It was a quick read and an inspirational story of a women who really never found happiness within even though she was living the "American Dream" as a self made millinaire. She never really enjoyed her successess here in the States. This is a story told by Mama Moons daughter. I felt that though she was taken out of Korea her suffering in this world continued with the grief of losing not only a daughter in an accident but also a son to addiction. The storyline was good and there was some interesting insights on military life and Korean culture. I would recommend this book.Product details

Mama Moon eBook Susan Gayle Reviews
Although I appreciated the subject's struggle and her tenacity I felt that the story line development was choppy from chapter to chapter. The characters were not explored deeply enough to explain their actions.
I am so grateful this story was told. It's a testament to both the human spirit and unconditional love between a daughter and mother that is unspoken.
I started reading Mama Moon on a flight and couldn't put it down. I did have to stop a few times to process all the challenges this strong woman had to face in her life time. The choices and decisions that Mama Moon had to make were necessary for her survival but heartbreaking at the same time. I was moved by her perseverance and ability to share with others - she made a difference in so many people's lives without always knowing it. They say what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger and this is certainly the case here. Determination and a strong sense of purpose are key lessons. It also made me realize how much we take from our childhood into the people we become.
Susan Gayle did an amazing job telling this story, which really made me think about how much we take for granted and how we can do anything in life if we have our health. And like her mother, Susan's story is truly inspirational.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I would read it again in the future. What a pleasant and inspirational read. I would recommended to everyone else.
Last month I read Mama Moon and still continue to think about this book. It will make a lasting impression on you. Moon is a remarkable woman - strong willed, courageous, and passionate. The story starts with her as a young girl growing up in Korea. The Korean female culture is totally foreign to me, and I was astounded at the manner in which young women are treated in Korea. Mama Moon's daughter, Susan Gayle, wrote this biography/memoir about her mother, and Susan has a way of making you feel like you are right there with them. Moon perseveres against all odds to meet her goal of caring for and educating her children. Along the way she takes care of many unfortunates and becomes a brilliant business woman.
This book is warm, loving, inspiring, and educational. I highly recommend it .
This book was unbelievably inspiring and beautifully written. It was simple, to the point, and I just couldn't put it down! I cried so much throughout the book. I laughed and grieved with the author. I read this book on the , but plan on buying the paperback version, just to loan to my family and friends. I think that this should be required reading in high schools! We all need to learn that we are much more capable than we give ourselves credit! We all have talents, why shouldn't we put them to use? We need to stop with the excuses and start LIVING! )
In one afternoon, I started to read Mama Moon and couldn't stop reading until the end. Through this book, the author honors the memory of her hardworking mother. Through the pages, I felt like I'd actually met Mama Moon. I feel at once humbled and grateful to read about this resilient, resourceful woman.
This is the story of a very determined, hard working woman. It's told by her daughter and also tells the daughter's view of the mother. Mama Moon lived the American dream, she became a successful property owner and landlady while at the same time warding off illness and tiredness. She never learnt to speak or read English properly, but still managed, with her daughter as translator, to do a vast amount of wheeling and dealing. This was a book that was quite hard to put down, I enjoyed it.!
